• Thanet Prom

  Our amazing orchestra entertained a huge audience at the Winter Gardens last Thursday.  The school received some lovely feedback on the very high standard of the musicians.  Thank you as ever to Mr and Mrs Deacon, Mrs Ross and Miss Seeman for their support and to the children for all their hard work.  We were vey proud of you all!

  Just wanted to drop a quick email to let you know I visited the Thanet School Proms last night with Cliftonville Primary School in attendance with the orchestra. They were absolutely fantastic, and got a huge round of applause from a very good sized audience.

   

  They should all be very proud, and it was clear that a lot of hard work had gone into their performances – I just wanted to pass on my congratulations to staff and pupils involved.

  Dear Jane,

   

  Good to talk to you today.  I just wanted to highlight again, how impressed my daughter Lizzie was with the children’s fantastic performance at the Thanet Prom last night. Lizzie is now the manager of the Kent Youth Choirs and also works closely with the managers of the Kent Youth Orchestra and Kent Youth Wind Orchestra. She was project managing the Prom on behalf of Kent Music.

   

  She was so complimentary about the Cliftonville orchestra (with no prompting from me)  when she came home that I told her I must pass on her comments to you! She was impressed, not only to see children playing so many different instruments in a primary school, (far too rare now!) but with the quality and subtleties of their performance.  All testament to your vision and support  for the children. 

   

  Lizzie also talked to one of your parents who said she had no idea her daughter (a trombonist)  could play like that  - Lizzie told her what a fantastic opportunity she had been given by the school - that the trombone is an ‘endangered’ instrument and that her daughter would always be needed as a trombonist and what a special experience playing an instrument is.

   

  Lizzie is likely to be doing more work in Thanet and knows that Andrew is keen to be involved so she’ll keep in touch. She has emailed all the teachers involved in the Prom this morning but will be writing a formal letter to the Headteachers of all the schools next week.

  We could only publish rehearsal pictures as the photos from the evening performance would have included children from other schools and could have compromised any 'no-photograph' requests from their parents.

  

• Easter Hat Parade

  Last Friday, at Cliftonville Primary School, we held our annual Easter hat parade. This year the children excelled themselves with the amazing hats they made. They were colourful and creative, with lots of original themes, from Batman to bunny rabbits. When the children were altogether they made a really delightful spectacle, not only with their hats but with their big smiles too – they all really enjoyed wearing them and showing them off. The day started with a parade in the school building to show their hats to the local residents and members of Holy Trinity Mother’s Union. It is great to see so many members of the local community showing an interest in what we are doing at Clifonville Primary School and coming in to support our events. This was followed in the afternoon, by a parade through the playgrounds to show off the hats to the older children in the school and also to parents.

  

• Nursery Stay and Play sessions

  “We are very happy with Anthony’s progress and happy with the comments his teacher has made – an accurate observation. Thank you for all the hard work and input and we do mirror this at home.”

   

  “I was a bit worried about Lacy as she had never been in an environment with lots of children; the teachers have all been great with Lacy. Lacy loves coming to school!! We are really pleased.”

   

  “I’m really happy with the progress Craiglee has made this term.”

   

  “I am happy with this Nursery and how much Samanta has learned.”

   

  “Kari has learnt so much and gained in confidence. She has lots of friends and loves taking part in activities. She is very proud of her “school nursery”. We have no concerns. Kari’s teachers always have positive things to say and we couldn’t have asked for better role models for our daughter.”

   

  “I am very happy with Hayden’s progress. He has learnt a lot at the Nursery. He really enjoys it here.”

   

  “I am extremely pleased with Freddie’s progress this year. I believe this to be due to excellent staff working together with the children i.e. Mrs Tuffs, Miss Pearlman.”

   

  “I think Muhammed is very happy at this Nursery and I am so glad I enrolled him. I was in two minds at the beginning which is why he started later in the year as it is a commitment to bring him every day, but I definitely think it is well worth it as they make up for it in all of the other areas. It was the best decision I made. If I have any other children I will definitely do the same again.”

   

  “Louise is always coming home having learned something or there’s some amazing activity going on at Nursery. She loves going to Nursery. I am very happy with the Nursery team. Mrs Tuffs is an amazing person to deal with, nothing too much trouble (and us parents can be crazy.) Thanks again, a very happy parent.”

• Harry Sharman as England mascot

  Harry Sharman proudly wore his England kit having been chosen to be a match-day mascot on Friday at Wembley's game against Lithuania.  A great result for Harry and the team with a 4-0 win!

  

• 'We Day' trip to Wembley Arena

  Earlier this month, 12 School Councillors left school early in the morning for their exciting day trip to London.  They attended “We Day” at Wembley Arena run by the Free The Children charity.  They were awarded their free tickets in recognition of their amazing work and charity fundraising.  During the day they were treated to performances from Shawn Mendez, Years and Years, Bars and Melody and Mr Probz.  They also heard a range of motivational speakers from Sir Richard Branson, Princess Beatrice and Martin Sheen to the young winners of the 2014 Google Global Science Fair.  The children (and staff) had an absolutely fantastic day and came back buzzing with new ideas of how they can help to change the world, one step at a time.

  

• Pupil to be England's match-day mascot!

  We were thrilled to learn that Harry Sharman has been selected to be a match-day mascot for England's football game against Lithuania at Wembley.  We look forward to finding out about his amazing experience next week!  Many congratulations from all of the school.

• Easter maths competition

  Mrs Weitzel has set another exciting maths challenge for the holidays.  All entries are to be made by Friday 24th April.  A printed copy of the information will be coming home next week.

  

• Easter craft workshop

  Mrs Glover and Mrs Sear organised two fabulous sessions for parents and children to work together on Easter craft activities.  One was in the afternoon with the other following on, after school.  There were lots of lovely bonnets made, decorated with chicks and eggs!  Thank you to everyone who took part and especially Mrs Glover and Mrs Sear for arranging.

  

• Royal Albert Hall trip

  Year 5 pupils had the every exciting opportunity to visit the Royal Albert Hall this week.  They watched the 'Classical Spectacular', a mix of classical music, laser lights, fireworks and cannons!  They travelled up by coach taking in the sights of London including The Shard, the London Eye, Big Ben, the River Thames, Downing Street and Buckingham Palace.  Lunch was enjoyed in the spring sunshine in Kensington Gardens.  We had seats all over the Royal Albert Hall from the Grand boxes to the front row of the arena floor - everyone had an amazing view of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  The children were such a credit to the school and staff from other schools commented on their outstanding behaviour. 

  

• Pirates ahoy!

  The Nursery team planned a fantastic themed Pirate Day this term.  Pirate 'Clayson' and Pirate 'Mason' were made to walk the plank!  Thank you to all the parents who helped with costumes.  It was a very successful day!
