In order to become a Peer Mentor, we had to apply for the role. We filled out an application form and explain why we thought we should be chosen for the job and what skills we had that would be valuable to the role. Once we were picked, we had to complete an 8-session training programme to make sure we were ready to support our peers and achieve our badges.
These sessions covered:
We met weekly to complete our training. We can ask for support whenever we need it now that our training has completed. We wear badges so that the children can easily identify us and we also attend SLT meetings to share our thoughts with the school leadership team. We have given them lots of ideas to think about, for example, bringing back the Buddy Bench in the KS1 playground so if someone is feeling lonely, they can go there to find a friend.
