Following a fabulous Number Week and with your generous donations we were able to send £735.67 to the NSPCC. Children and staffed dressed up in costumes with a number theme. Thank you to parents, as ever, for such amazing support.
Ten lucky Year 6 children from Cliftonville Primary School recently took part in an exciting joint project with Discovery Planet and Resort Studios called “Margate’s Marble Mete-Out!”. Before Christmas, the children attended a workshop at Resort Studios where they explored the concept of regeneration and some of the politics involved. They discussed who has the power to make decisions about Margate and who controls what money is spent on. They then considered what they think the most important things Margate should have are and what money should be spent on. To illustrate their decisions, they worked collaboratively to build a giant marble run with the marbles representing the money. The marbles went through a range of exciting tubes and bowls representing aspects such as healthcare, transport and services. Some marbles collected in a pot at the bottom and the children built a pulley system to bring the marbles back to the top and put this “money” back into the system representing taxes. During the day, the children were visited by a STEM engineer from Kent University who helped them understand the science involved in building a marble run and also an architect from Resort Studios who specialises in town planning to give them more information about the processes involved in designing a town. The children had a very fun day and learnt lots. Last week, they were very proud to present their work and demonstrate the giant marble run to the rest of Key Stage 2 in a special assembly attended by Nikki and Xanthe from Discovery Planet and Dan from Resort Studios
