Train to teach with us

The Coastal Academies Trust is excited to announce the launch of our School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT). This School-Centred Initial Teacher Training programme is a school-led teacher training course that leads to Qualified Teacher Status and a  Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). SCITT teacher training is one of the most popular ways to gain QTS, offering trainees a chance to get hands-on teaching experience with at least two schools.

The CAT SCITT is offering training options in both primary and secondary settings within  our CAT schools and beyond. Our one-year teacher-training programme supports trainee teachers to train and develop their skills in the classroom. It is ideal for people who have a degree and are eager to learn on the job to make a difference in their community from day one.

Coastal Academies Trust is working in partnership with Teach First to provide School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT).

What’s the programme in a nutshell?

The School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme is a one-year teacher-training course which enables you to train and develop your skills in the classroom.

If you are looking to train as a primary school teacher you can train in either Cliftonville Primary School or Newington Community Primary School. Both schools have an excellent record of supporting students on their journey to becoming a qualified teacher.

If you are looking to train in a specific subject to become a secondary teacher you can choose to train at Dane Court Grammar School, Royal Harbour Academy, Hartsdown Academy or King Ethelbert Secondary School. All schools have excellent record of training teachers and can offer a wealth of experiences across the schools.

The Teach First research-led programme will give you plenty of practical experience, along with phase and subject-specific training and a deep understanding of effective teaching methods.

You’ll be in the classroom from September 2024 and will benefit from the support of a trained mentor throughout your training.

At the end of our programme, you’ll be awarded qualified teacher status (QTS) and postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE).
