    Dear Parents and Carers
Once again, I would like to thank you for your support, help and overwhelmingly positive feedback that we have received this week as we have had to get to grips with our changing roles for the foreseeable future.
These have been and will continue to be, challenging times but the strength of our community is how we pull together and support each other. We recognise that the coming weeks are not going to be easy. We will continue communicating with you regularly through our text systems and the website.
The Government has stated that ‘the most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of COVID-19 is if children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.
Schools are safe places for children but the fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society. Schools, and all childcare providers, have been asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children - children who are vulnerable, and children whose parents are critical to the Covid-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home. Vulnerable children include children who are supported by social care, those with safeguarding and welfare needs, including child in need plans, on child protection plans, ‘looked after’ children, young carers, disabled children and those with education, Health Care plans.’
As a school, we have been organising staffing to make provision for those who have informed us that they are in need of attending school based on the criteria. Ideally, we would want to be able to provide childcare for all children of key workers – however – this will depend upon our staffing levels. We will be risk assessing on a daily basis but it may be necessary to prioritise availability. Those attending will need to be in school uniform and normal expectations of school life will apply.
Children entitled to Free School Meals
We will be using a Government backed voucher scheme. There will be more details early next week.
    Home Learning
We will be continually updating this section of the website https://www.cliftonvilleprimary.co.uk/home-learning/ with work and activities that could be completed at home. A green book will be going home tonight for all home learning activities. If your child does not receive one, you are more than welcome to collect one from the office unless you are self isolating.
If there are any issues with access to the internet, we do have some paper copies in the school office if needed.
    Yours sincerely
    Claire Whichcord

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers

Following the government’s decision late yesterday afternoon, Cliftonville Primary School will be closing from the end of Friday, 20th March for the vast majority of pupils.   This includes Breakfast Club and our Extended Day provision.

Cliftonville Primary and Pre-School is a very special community and I am so proud of how we have responded so far to this very challenging and ever changing situation. As we move into this next phase, we must continue to work together as one large community.

Where possible, the school will remain open for Children of keyworkers i.e. NHS Health Workers,  Emergency Services (fire, police officers ambulance), Delivery drivers for supplies, Social Care workers including those caring for vulnerable and elderly people, school staff who are actively working in schools.  Could you please advise us as soon as possible, if you are a keyworker in our community and wish your child to still attend school.   The school will, where possible, stay open to pupils with EHCP’s and pupils linked to a Social Worker.

We have tried to keep our community up to date with the progress of this very challenging situation and I would like to thank all parents, staff and children for their commitment and support for the school.

From Friday and until further notice the following will apply:

    • All notifications to parents will be by text or via the school website.  Please let the school know if your mobile number changes.
    • There will be no communications via social media during this time.
    • The School will update parents of the closure on the school website, and the KCC website www.kentclosures.co.uk
    • A text will be sent to inform parents when the school will reopen – this information will also be posted on our school website: https://www.cliftonvilleprimary.co.uk

    Homelearning:

As stated in previous communications, there is a section on the website under the parents section called ‘Home Learning’ with activities for each year group and also general activities for Maths & English.  If you do not have internet access, please collect a copy from the school office.  To avoid printing sheets a dark green exercise book will be sent home for work to be completed in.  Please return the exercise book to school when school re-opens.  There will be additional resources added to the website so please keep your eye on these.  Please also use any other online learning opportunities e.g. My Maths etc.

It is vital that we ensure that all our children continue to be supported.  Our Parent Support Advisors will still be in contact with some of our families and our work with a variety of external partners will continue.

We continue to follow the DfE advice and the latest information regarding self-isolation can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public#what-to-do-if-you-have-symptoms

Finally, I would just like to thank all parents and staff for your continued support for Cliftonville Primary School.  I will keep you informed over the closure period of any updates or changes and I wish you all very good health during the coming weeks.

    Yours sincerely

    Mon 16 Mar 2020

If your child is being kept at home under 'self-isolation', we have compiled home learning activities that could be completed. They are categorised under year groups as well as some general maths, literacy and phonics areas.

These will be updated and added to over time.

Of course, in line with our school priority this year lots and lots of reading- reading to, reading at and reading with. You could also spend sometime learning lots of new words- it doesn't matter which ones but try and get the children to use them when writing.

    Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

There is currently no cause for concern at the school, but we will keep you informed about any developments and ensure we are keeping the school clean to prevent the spread of any virus.

You are likely to be aware of the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in China and the subsequent confirmed cases in the UK. At Cliftonville Primary and Pre-School, we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously, so we’re sharing guidance from Public Health England with you.

    Prevent the spread of infection

Make sure you and your children follow these general principles to prevent spreading any respiratory virus:

    • Wash your hands often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or an alcohol-based sanitiser if soap and water are not available
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home

If you’re worried about your symptoms, please call NHS 111 – do not go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment.

If you have returned from these specific areas since February 19th, you should call NHS 111, stay indoors, and avoid contact with other people even if you do not have symptoms:

    • Iran
    • Specific lockdown areas in the Lombardy and Veneto regions of Northern Italy as designated by the Government of Italy
    • Daegu or Cheongdo in South Korea
    • Hubei province (returned in the past 14 days)

If you have returned from these areas since February 19th and develop symptoms, however mild, you should stay indoors at home and avoid contact with other people immediately and call NHS 111:

    • Northern Italy (defined as North of Pisa but not including Pisa, Florence and Rimini)
    • Vietnam
    • Cambodia
    • Laos
    • Myanmar

If you have a cough, or fever or shortness of breath and have visited any of the following areas in the last 14 days stay indoors and call NHS 111 informing them of your recent travel to the city.

    • China
    • Thailand
    • Japan
    • Republic of Korea
    • Hong Kong
    • Taiwan
    • Singapore
    • Malaysia
    • Macau

I would like to assure you that there is no cause for concern at the school and please send in your child/ children as usual.
