• Half term holiday club JUNE

  Dear Parents and Carers,

   

  We are very pleased to let you know that we are running a holiday club to provide childcare for children in Reception to Year 6 for the week commencing 1^st June.  This is a trial, to see what uptake is like for school holiday periods and is part of our commitment to support all families, particularly working families.

   

  The holiday club will be based in the nursery building and will be run by the same staff as Extended Day. Weather permitting it is intended that the children will visit the park and secret gardens, library and local places of interest. Our usual extended day facilities including arts and craft, access to computers and outside activities will also be available.

   

  Breakfast and a hot tea will be provided, but it will be necessary for children attending all day to bring a packed lunch with them. This provision will cost £13 per session running from 8am to 1pm and 1pm to 6pm or £24 for the whole day. There will be no extra costs for offsite trips and a timetable of planned activities will be available nearer the time.

   

  Please complete a booking form available from the office if your child is not already registered with the Extended Day team.  Payment is not required at this time, but all sessions must be paid in full prior to attending in June.

   

  If you would like to discuss any aspect of this, please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs Watts, our Extended Day leader.

   

  A letter will be sent home after half term which will include the booking form.

  Have a look at all of our Wally's!!  The children had a lovely week of Talk4Writing, visits, visitors, reading assemblies with literally hundreds of stories read across the school.

  National Storytelling Week

  We have had an amazing week of activities, all promoting reading and writing.  So many parents came in to share books with their children that we had to use every corner of the school!  The School Council organised and ran the most successful book swap ever.

  

• Very successful Y1 maths workshop

  Year 1 maths games workshop

   

  This week parents from year 1 were invited to attend a maths games workshop, aimed at helping children become fluent in basic number work. A record number of parents attended and were all given a games pack containing the resources and ideas for a variety of games which would enable the children to practise their number skills. After playing some games with other parents in the hall, the children came to play too. We all had a great time and enjoyed doing our number work. Thank you to all the parents who attended and to Lucie our Parent Support Advisor who translated for families who do not have English as their home language.

  

• Book fair raises £1133

  Thank you to all of our families who supported the Book Fair just before Christmas.  We have £1133 in free books for the children.  These will be shared between Key Stages and added to the library stock and class book corners.

  We were thrilled to learn that our school has been invited to attend the 'We Day' at Wembley Arena in March.  This is due to our school's commitment, led by the School Council, to undertake both global and local projects to make a change to people's lives.  Our invite recognises the positive impact of all the amazing work of the School Council including leading Operation Christmas Child, our Green Travel Project and charity fundraising.  This is a remarkable achievement for primary aged children which reflects Cliftonville School's vision to build a generation of active citizens who recognise their rights and responsibilities in their local and wider communities.

• School Awarded Quality Mark

  National Quality Mark award for Continuous Professional Learning and Development (CPLD)

   

  We were very pleased to have been awarded a National Quality Mark for our commitment to staff professional learning and development.  Last week, we had a very robust external assessment of our work to improve outcomes for children through developing every member of the staff. 

   

  Our CPLD has enabled us to further improve the quality of teaching and learning and demonstrates our core purpose as a learning organisation....for both children and staff!

   

  We are extremely proud of this accreditation.

  

• Amazing Staff Panto!

  Staff Panto - December 2014

   

  Our amazing staff team came together again this year to perform Aladdin for the children and two evening performances for parents and friends.  The hour-long pantomime was written by one of our talented staff members, Year 5 teacher Mr David Briggs.  Money raised from ticket sales will be given to CRY, the charity working to reduce cardiac risk in the young, in memory of Oliver Thompson.

  

• Community performance by KS1

  Children from KS1 at Cliftonville Primary School invited people who live locally or attend the local church to come into school on Wednesday 17th December to hear their Christmas nativity. The children performed beautifully, having learned by heart the words and actions to a wide range of songs. Christmas  at school with young children  is such a wonderful, exciting time that we wanted to share some of this joy with the people who live in our local community. Our children did this in the best way possible, by singing the Christmas story. Their smiles as they did this, conveyed some of the excitement this time of year brings. Following the concert the children served minced pies and cakes while our guests drank tea.
