Year 3 marked the end of their work on the Romans in style with a fantastic performance to parents.  After taking part in a Roman themed workshop at the beginning of term where the children got to dress up, handle Roman coins and act as gladiators, the children learnt about Roman life as well as designing and making their own Roman shields.  They shared this learning with their parents on Thursday morning in a special assembly that involved marching to Latin commands, forming a “tortoise” and singing.  It was lovely to see so many parents attending and sharing in their children’s learning.  A big thank you to the Year 3 team for all their hard work in preparing the morning.  ​

Reception children at Cliftonville Primary and pre-school experienced a fabulous finish to their topic of growing last term.

 

They enjoyed a visit from The National Fruit Show and a mouth-watering apple workshop. The youngsters were completely immersed in a story about the year of an apple as well as learning lots of new apple facts.

 

They also tried a range of apples as well as apple crisps and apple sweets. and were able to use the juicer to make apple juice and then drink the product of their hard work.

 

To round the day off, children got messy and used the left over apples to create apple print masterpieces.

 

As a parting gift, the school was an apple tree to plant so the children are able to take care of it and produce homegrown apples for the future.

 

Karen Hill, Year Group Leader, said: “What a fabulous way to round off our learning this term. The children thoroughly enjoyed the whole apple experience – from fruit tasting to juicing to getting messy with paint.

“As they left school, we could hear them rushing to tell their parents about this fantastic experience and even asking if they could buy an apple tree for their own gardens.’

We had nearly 100 competition entries for the recycling Art competition. Have a look at the amazing quality and quantity of the work.

On Thursday we had our annual Easter bonnet parade at Cliftonville Primary School. As usual the children and parents had pulled out all stops to make a spectacular array of bonnets featuring everything from Easter bunnies and chicks to dinosaurs! All 360 children in year R, 1 and 2 wore a hat and when they all sat together in the hall it was a sea of colour. We invited members of the local community in to hear our songs and to see our hats in the morning, and we had our newly hatched chicks as special guests too! With our beautiful singing, colourful hats and lovely little chicks, we hope our guests who come from the local area, Grosvenor Court care home and Holy Trinity Church had a nice time, and left knowing how lovely our school and its children are.

Last year we were so disappointed that the rain cancelled our parade in the afternoon to parents.

However this year the sun shone beautifully and our children were able to proudly display their hats and waved happily to parents, friends and relatives who turned up in their hundreds to see them

Yesterday, pupils and staff at Cliftonville Primary School marked their ‘Environment Day’ in style by wearing green or Environment-themed outfits. The highlight of the day was their ‘Earth Hour’ when all the classes turned off their electrical appliances and enjoyed learning about the natural environment in the school grounds. Fortunately, the sun shone for them! This is the second year that the school has taken part in the World Wildlife Fund’s ‘Earth Hour’ campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues. During the day, the children also voted for which animal the school should support through the WWF’s ‘Adopt-an-Animal’ scheme.

The day was the culmination of the school’s ‘Environment Term’ in which all children learned about environmental issues through their science-based topics. The whole school were encouraged to make ‘Eco Pledges’ and families have been sending in photos of the children carrying out their promises. There has been a huge response to the competition to make an artwork from ‘rubbish’ with some incredibly imaginative entries. One of the most successful activities of the term has been the School Council’s project to recycle soft plastics as ‘Eco Bricks’ to be used at playtimes. Due to its success, the School Council have plans to make it even bigger and better in coming terms with the intention that it will have a significant impact on the amount of non-recyclable plastic going into landfill in the local area.

Cliftonville goes red for Comic Relief

WOW what a day we had last Friday with the whole school community ‘doing something funny for money’!!

Both the KS1 and KS2 school councils planned and ran numerous events throughout the day. For KS1 this included decorating a biscuit where they helped about 200 children decorate a biscuit in about half an hour! They will also be judging the colouring competition this week as well.

The KS2 school council also had a variety of fundraising activities including ‘splat the face’, guessing what Mr Neve is wearing and a golf competition.

All of this as well as the whole school wearing red for the day. It was a really fun day and we made £ 915.97  for Comic Relief (the pre-school made it on BBC new south East!)
