Chris Cook returns to Cliftonville
On Monday 12th October, we had the pleasure of welcoming Olympic swimmer and Inspire mentor back to Cliftonville. Throughout the morning Chris inspired our children yet again to think about their dreams and aspirations (linking in very well with our values). In workshops with Year 4, Chris worked with all the children, thinking about what makes people successful and how they can become even more successful. This complemented our schools values and in particular the Y4 value of aspiration.
Minecraft is one of the world’s most popular games, especially with children. The chances are Minecraft will be part of their world, or their friends' worlds. So what should you know about helping your children play safely?

As ever, if you would like any help or guidance on keeping your child safe whilst online, please speak to Mr Clayson, our IT network manager.
Dear Parents
Safeguarding
We love children arriving promptly at school in the morning, but a large number of children are on the school grounds 'way too early', some as early as 8.10am. This is mainly KS2 pupils some of whom are dropped off by parents, others who walk unaccompanied. This morning there were nearly forty children before 8.25am. Whilst they are generally very well behaved, there are no adults out there with them.
The school is not liable for any accidents or incidents that occur prior to our published supervision time of 8.40am.
We offer a very reasonable hour of childcare and food at £2 per day in breakfast club from 7.45am. From Monday 12th October any pupil on the playground before 8.30am will be taken into breakfast club and you will be charged the daily fee for this service.
We encourage independence of pupils and want to support parents who are working, but this must be done in conjunction with our policies and practice.
Pupils can come onto the KS2 playground from 8.15am on Friday’s on the weeks when the Motiv8 sports club is running.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of this letter or to register your child for breakfast club, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Yours sincerely
Jane Troth
Headteacher
We were thrilled to be invited to the national BETT conference in January 2016. Our world beating Maths in Motion team has been asked to demonstrate the software used and developed. This is a real honour and we are very proud of the whole team.
School Values workshops
Last year the community of Cliftonville Primary School developed the new school ethos. The children, staff, governors and parents decided on Independence, Safe and Settled, Resilience, Respect, Aspiration, Enjoying Learning and Community Unity. These reflected what was really important to Cliftonville Primary School and what the school should be.
During the last two weeks, each year group has taken part in a ½ day workshop designed to highlight each of our seven values. Each value had a specific activity related to it. The children participated in all seven activities and then were able to discuss how these can be translated back into the classroom and their learning.

As part of our curriculum enrichment and Talk For Writing scheme, Year 5 were visited by a beautiful greyhound called Rita this term. Pupils are learning all about persuasion and will now be producing a leaflet persuading people to adopt a retired greyhound.
We took some Year 5 pupils to visit the Pop Up Cliftonville Chemistry experience this week. It is open tomorrow, Saturday 26th, so why not go along and join in the fun activities!
The guidance document for Secondary School admission (September 2016) can be found under our general admissions page. Please speak to Mrs Spackman or Ms Whichcord if you would like any support or advice on the process.

Year 1 and Year 3 parents came in tonight after school to see some of the beautiful work already completed by children this term. It was lovely to see so many parents celebrating the achievements of their children. The children were so proud to be sharing their new classrooms and work. There are 'Come and....' sessions planned throughout the school this year.
These are the winners of the Summer maths competition. The children had to plan a day out - and use their maths while they were there. The overall winner was Raven; some of the other prize winners are pictured by their work. Congratulations to everyone who took part and thank you to Mrs Weitzel for putting together the project.
