The National Young Mathematicians’ Awards are the only team maths competition for primary schools in the UK. The competition, now in its seventh year, is run in conjunction with the NRICH project at the University of Cambridge and is designed to inspire and challenge talented mathematicians from across the UK. The competition will consist of three rounds. The first will be a regional knock out undertaken at an Explore Learning centre on the 8th, 9th or 10th November. Winners will go through to the Semi Final on the 23rd November where school teams will battle it out against other top schools in their region to try and win a space at the Grand Final taking place at the University of Cambridge on 7th December. Our team consists of four Year 6 pupils and they will compete in the regional competition on the 8th November.
Good luck to the team!
Year 6 have been working on "The Highwayman", a narrative poem written by Alfred Noyes. The poem tells the story of a nameless highwayman who is in love with the landlord's daughter named Bess. The fantastic work they have produced is on display in the library. Please have a look if you are in for Early Bird sessions! Well done to Year 6.
Mrs Wilson asked teachers to nominate children who have been regularly reading at home to come along to a special tea party with her. It was so hard to choose as nearly all children in school are reading every night and remembering to get their reading record signed. Well done to those in KS1 and KS2 who were invited to a lovely tea party!
Musical.ly App
We are aware that some children are using the app at home. The apps terms and conditions state that there is a 13+ age restriction. If you would like any advice from Mr Clayson, our online safety officer, please contact him via the school office. The link below has some useful information.

Term 1 attendance
A massive thank you to all of the children who took part in this term's book swap. It was great to see so many interesting books brought in that are now going to new homes! Thanks also to Mr Hedges and Mrs Wilson for helping to organise it.
Well done to the following children who have been awarded 'Literacy Stars of the Term':
On Tuesday 18th October we welcomed Laviai Neilson to our school. She is an up and coming sprinter and was the fastest junior in the world last year over 400m. Laviai was inspired by being a kit carrier at the London 2012 Olympics.
Laviai met with KS1 and KS2 in special assemblies before spending the rest of the day working with Mr Holyer.
