We have been very fortunate that East Kent College have offered to run a basic first aid course at the school for parents, free of charge.
The course is aimed at parents and carers with young children and will teach basic emergency first aid including CPR. It is a 3 hour training course which is unaccredited.
The course will run on Wednesday 15th March from 9.00 until 12.00 and places are limited to 12.
In order to attend the course you must be aged 19 or over (before 31st August 2016) and have been resident in the UK/EEU for 3+ years. All attendees will need to complete an application form provided by EKC in the week prior to the course and provide suitable I.D for example Passport, Driving Licence or I.D Card.
We will allocate the places on a first come, first served basis and anticipate that the spaces will fill very quickly. If you are interested in attending and can definitely make the date, please complete the slip on the letter coming home today and return it to the school office.
The children had so much fun playing games, going on a pirate treasure hunt and going to the hall to re-capture our treasure from naughty Cap'n Blackbeard (who became a good pirate after walking the plank!) We even made our visitors, Mr Hollyer and Mr Clayson walk the plank too! Parents also enjoyed watching as their child walked the plank and received a special pirate certificate as they went home!
Last July Scott Rooney in year 2 won a Thanet wide competition to design a character to highlight the importance of recycling. Today, a road sweeper arrived at Cliftonville Primary School with Scott's design on the side- this sweeper will be now seen all over Thanet helping to keep our roads and paths clean. After having his photo taken by the side with his proud mum and dad, he was cheered off by his class as he was given a ride around the school playground.
Well done Scott
Mrs Weitzel was thrilled to see so many parents attend the maths workshops. It was such fun to see parents learning with....and from....their children!
I thought you may like to know about "National Number Day" that we celebrated at Cliftonville Primary School today. Although it is Number Day, this year our theme for the special week leading up to Number Day has been shape, so the children were encouraged to dress up in shape clothes. Many of the children decorated their shirts with different shapes and numbers and some made themselves into a shape. One very creative mother even plaited a square into their daughters hair.
During our shape week we have been out in the community looking for shapes. All our year 1 children visited Dane Park and were amazed by all the different shapes they found. In year 5 the children visited Revolution skate park and as well as enjoying a session on the scooters and the climbing wall, spent time looking at the shapes and sizes of the different ramps. They are currently making a scale model of the skate park in their classrooms. Fantastic art work has been completed in several year groups - both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional. A highlight for our younger children was a visit from a magician, who showed them lots of shape tricks. They thoroughly enjoyed watching shapes disappear and change all by magic!
It has been a fantastic week at Cliftonville Primary School, with the children learning so much about shape while thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Children across Key Stage 2 will be performing at the Winter Gardens on the evening of Tuesday 7th February. This is a celebration of the talents of children and young people across the Coastal Academies Trust, showcasing rock bands, orchestras, steel bands, dance groups and choirs. Tickets are available from the school office.
Paddy the dog visited with Jo from the Dogs Trust this week. The children in Year R learnt all about looking after pets and the responsibilities of being a dog owner! They just loved meeting Paddy and they had lots of very good questions to ask Jo.
Ofsted Inspection 30th November - 1st December
I am thrilled and extremely proud to report that Cliftonville Primary & Pre-School is officially OUTSTANDING. After a very thorough inspection of all aspects of our school, we received the highest grading in every single judgement. We join a very small number of schools in the county with this Ofsted grading, made even more unique with only one area to further develop. There will be special celebrations for the children in the new year. I am immensely privileged to lead this school and grateful to everyone for their part in this outstanding outcome.
Have a lovely Christmas with your families and we will see you in January!
The children took part in a beautiful traditional re-telling of the Nativity story. They just looked amazing in their costumes and their singing and acting was a joy! Thank you to all the parents who helped with learning words and making donkey's ears!
The children took part in a traditional re-telling of the Christmas story. They learnt lots of new songs and all enjoyed performing to their parents and families.
