Parliament Week

This term, Miss Conellan, who facilitates the Pupils' School Council, spent a week in Westminster as part of the Teachers' Institute Programme. After a very competitive application process, she was one of a small number of teachers from across the UK selected to take part in this unique professional development opportunity. Teachers of Government & Politics, Citizenship and related subjects, and other education professionals,  applied to experience an intensive, informative and unforgettable course based at the Houses of Parliament.

The Teachers' Institute programme offered:

  • A tour of the Palace of Westminster
  • The chance to watch debates in the chambers
  • Question & Answers with Members from both Houses
  • Informative sessions to improve delegates' knowledge of Parliament and democracy
  • Activities that will help to develop classroom resources
  • Networking opportunities

Miss Connellan has come back with lots of great ideas to teach the children about aspects of democracy and law making.  There will be a special themed week in November which coincides with 'Parliament Week'.
