Year 4 had great fun finding out what Vikings ate for breakfast. They were brave warriors eating porridge and honey while they waited for Beowulf to arrive and save them from the ferocious monster Grendel.
Mrs Mayhew was blown away by the number of entries to the autumn poetry competition. She and the other members of SLT had a busy afternoon reading the brilliant entries and making the difficult decision of the winners. There were poems about hedgehogs, leaves, Halloween, fireworks and more! There were rhyming poems, acrostic poems, short poems and long poems. Many of them were beautifully illustrated too. Well done to everyone who took part! There were prizes for the winners in each key stage and all participants got a special certificate. Keep up the super writing and look out for the next writing competition!
Here are just a few of the amazing poems from children from Reception to Year 6:
Mrs Mayhew was very excited to be invited to 2J this afternoon to see their performance poetry. The children carved pumpkins and learnt the poem ‘5 little pumpkins’ off by heart. Well done 2J!
We were very excited to receive the amount of £249.48 from Tesco Extra which was raised by their generous customers via their book swap scheme this summer. Mrs Mayhew had lots of fun choosing new books to spend it on and was very excited when the 44 new books arrived. This afternoon, 2P enjoyed reading Gustavo the Shy Ghost and talked about what makes them ‘glow’.
Over the half-term holiday we are challenging all our children to take part in our autumn poetry competition. We would love you to write a poem on the theme of autumn.
It could be about:
It could be in any style:
You could have a look at https://childrens.poetryarchive.org/ to get some inspiration or ideas about how to layout your poem. Think about the senses and try to be descriptive.
Entries need to have your name and class on and be handed in to your class teacher by Friday 4th November 2022. There will be a special prize for each key stage.
Happy writing.
We can’t wait to see your poems!
