As part of our Easter celebrations this year the younger children at Cliftonville Primary School all made Easter bonnets. In all there were about 320 Easter bonnets, all different shapes, colours and sizes, which looked absolutely spectacular. As has become a bit of a tradition we invited people from our local community in to share the fun at Easter. We had a large group of people from Holy Trinity Church, Grosvenor Court care home and residents from Northumberland Avenue who listened to the children sing their Spring songs and also had the unenviable task of judging the best hat. They then enjoyed a cup of tea and some cake. Later in the day the parents came to see the children parade their hats - it was a hugely successful event which resulted in many smiling faces.
Thank you to everyone who supported the recent Book Fair. We have raised an amazing £2438 in free books for the school. This will be used to further develop book choices in every year group.
Cliftonville Primary School’s Red Nose Day Extravaganza
On Friday 24 March, children, teachers and staff from Cliftonville Primary School in Margate will be hosting a series of events and activities in support of Red Nose Day 2017.
This is promising to be Cliftonville School’s biggest and best fundraiser to date. Over the past few weeks, students and staff have been hard at work planning and organising their activities
They have planned a fun jam packed day of fundraising events. The day will begin with staff and students wearing red to school for a donation. The activities throughout the day will consist of a Joke and Dance competition, prizes for the winners, an ever popular cake sale and finally a match the baby picture to a teacher challenge. The day is sure to raise lots of laughs and money for Red Nose Day 2017.
As well as lots of fun activities, the school will use Red Nose Day as a way of educating the students about how the money raised changes lives both here in the UK and in Africa. Claire Whichcord at Cliftonville, said “It is important for us here at Cliftonville to support families and children around the world”.
The money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives, both here in the UK and Africa.
Dear parents and carers
Vacancies on the Local Governing Body at Cliftonville Primary and Pre-School
We are very fortunate to be part of a successful and influential group of local schools working together for the benefit of over four thousand children across Thanet. This group is called the Coastal Academies Trust (CAT) and is legally and, as importantly, morally bound to provide the very best education for your child. There is a central CAT Board and Local Governing Bodies, all with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
Like all effective governing bodies, our local governing body sets the strategic direction of the school, is focused on raising standards and has an accurate overview of how well pupils are achieving in relation to their potential and other schools. Governors are expected to be confident in providing high levels of professional challenge and playing a significant role in the school’s leadership.
We are looking to add to our Local Governing Body with two new *parent governors especially with skills in special educational needs, finance or safeguarding. Please don’t be put off by thinking there are hundreds of meetings a year…it’s a minimum of six and we can help with child care costs. Being a Governor is an interesting and hugely rewarding role.
You may run your own business, have worked in social care or in a children’s centre. You may be a child minder, have links with charities or community groups or simply have an interest in education and want to contribute to the success of our school. You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply. If you are interested, please come in and see me for more details.

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the cross country event at Quex Park. It was a real battle in places...mainly against a strong head wind on a very blustery day. Thank you to parents who supported and Mr Holyer for organising our team.
'National Number Day" was celebrated at Cliftonville Primary School. Although it was Number Day, this year our theme for the special week leading up to Number Day has been shape, so the children were encouraged to dress up in shape clothes. Many of the children decorated their shirts with different shapes and numbers and some made themselves into a shape. One very creative mother even plaited a square into their daughters hair.
During our shape week we have been out in the community looking for shapes. All our year 1 children visited Dane Park and were amazed by all the different shapes they found. In year 5 the children visited Revolution skate park and as well as enjoying a session on the scooters and the climbing wall, spent time looking at the shapes and sizes of the different ramps. They are currently making a scale model of the skate park in their classrooms. Fantastic art work has been completed in several year groups - both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional. A highlight for our younger children was a visit from a magician, who showed them lots of shape tricks. They thoroughly enjoyed watching shapes disappear and change all by magic!
It was a fantastic week at Cliftonville Primary School, with the children learning so much about shape while thoroughly enjoying themselves.
