The Coastal Academies Trust is delighted to be offer our own School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT). This programme is a school-led teacher training course that leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) including a PGCE qualification. SCITT teacher training is one of the most popular ways to gain QTS, offering trainees a chance to get hands-on teaching experience with at least two schools.

The CAT SCITT is offering training options in both Primary and Secondary settings within our CAT Schools and beyond. Our one-year teacher-training programme supports trainee teachers to train and develop their skills in the classroom. It’s ideal for people who already have a university degree along with GCSE Maths, English and Science and are eager to learn on the job to make a difference in their community from day one. Please note that this is not a paid route, but you can apply for student funding for the cost of the course and depending on personal circumstances, a maintenance loan.

If you are looking or know someone who is looking to train as a primary school teacher, you can train in either Cliftonville Primary School or Newington Community Primary School. Both schools have an excellent record of supporting students on their journey to becoming a qualified teacher. Alternatively, if you work in a school local to Thanet that would be happy to support you and provide a mentor we would also be very happy to have you join our SCITT.

If you are looking to train in a specific subject to become a secondary teacher you can choose to train at Dane Court Grammar School, Royal Harbour Academy, Hartsdown Academy or King Ethelbert Secondary School. All schools have excellent record of training teachers and can offer a wealth of experiences across the schools.
