All adults in our school help to keep children safe

Safeguarding training

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) takes the lead responsibility for child protection, including support for other staff and information sharing with other agencies, developing policies and staff training.

Mrs Davin is the lead DSL and Mrs Whichcord, Mrs Allcock, Mrs Mendez, Mrs Saddington, Mr Clayson and Mrs Priest are Deputy DSLs trained to the same standard.

Staff undertake regular updated Safeguarding training along with dedicated termly themes.  In recent years, this has included online safety, sexual harassment and Channel Awareness training. Channel is a key process within the Prevent strategy for assessing individuals’ vulnerability to being drawn into terrorism. It focuses on early intervention and diverting people away from risk.

The governing body is regularly updated on all aspects of safeguarding. The full governing body completed the same training as all staff including the update training each year and the reading of KELSI part 1.  The full governing body reviewed the  written annual safeguarding report September 2026. The Headteacher and lead DSL provides a safeguarding report to the Governing body every term.

Safer Recruitment

Three members of the SLT as well as Mrs Priest, Deputy DSL, the School Business Manager,  Mrs Green and our Chair of Governors, Ellie Matthews, have completed their Safer Recruitment training.

Online training

Mr Clayson is our online safety officer.  With the fast pace of changes in the digital world he attends regular national training and provides support for our staff and parents.

Ms Rebecca Avery is the KCC Lead officer for online safety.  We have received some excellent feedback from Rebecca:

'Your school website online safety and safeguarding section looks great; I really like the up-to-date links and slideshow etc. Would you mind if I use it as an example of good practice for other schools who might be looking to improve their own online safety areas on their websites?'

First Aid training

12 members of staff currently have paediatric first aid certificates
