Uniform

Official Uniform Supplier

As we begin another school year, we would like to provide an update regarding our Active Uniform expectations.

As outlined in the uniform policy and information sent to parents in the summer, we would like  children to wear black trainers rather than traditional school shoes wherever possible. This allows children to be fully active during OPAL playtimes and throughout the school day.

We understand that some children may still be growing out of existing school shoes. In these cases, children should wear their school shoes as normal but will need to come to school in black trainers on their PE days.

Many of you will also be aware that this year we introduced gingham playsuits as an optional active uniform summer uniform item. Following further reflection and consideration of the activities children participate in, particularly gymnastics and other PE activities, we have reviewed this decision from a health and safety perspective.

As a result, any child choosing to wear a gingham playsuit will need to wear suitable PE clothing on PE days. This should include a polo T-shirt and either joggers, leggings or shorts, together with black trainers.

As we embark on our OPAL journey and our KS1 children have expressed an avid interest in digging, we would also ask that Year 1 and Year 2 children bring in a pair of welly boots and a waterproof puddle suit. This will ensure that hopefully they and our classrooms will stay as mud free as possible!

Year R/1 Forest school days the uniform is also active uniform – no non uniform items please.

We appreciate your support in helping ensure that all children can participate safely, comfortably and confidently in OPAL, PE and physical activities throughout the school day.

Thank you for your continued support.

We hope all children feel that wearing their Cliftonville uniform is a badge of pride, creating an identity for our school and bringing together our whole community.  Our Parent Support Workers, in the Wellbeing Hub House, keeps a stock of good quality second-hand items which helps to keep costs down for our families.

As of September 2026 we moved to an ‘Active Uniform’ which encompasses our drive for children to engage in our OPAL (outdoor play and learning) approach. It recognises that high-quality play is essential for children’s physical health, social development, creativity, and emotional wellbeing. To fully benefit from this, children need clothing that is:

  • Comfortable and practical
  • Suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities
  • Able to get messy without concern

An active uniform ensures children can engage fully in play opportunities throughout the day without restriction.

What are the benefits?

✅ Better for learning and wellbeing
Children will be able to move more freely, be active, and take part in a wider variety of play experiences.

✅ Supports sensory needs
Many children benefit from softer, more flexible clothing that reduces discomfort and allows them to regulate more effectively throughout the day.

✅ More affordable for families
The new uniform is designed to be simpler and more cost-effective, reducing the need for expensive or branded items.

✅ Practical for everyday school life
The focus is on durability and ease of washing, recognising that active play can be messy—and that’s a good thing!

Hair cuts should be age appropriate and suitable to the school environment. Hair should not be dyed or have coloured hair pieces such as clip ins. Short hair should not have patterns or words shaved into it.

Jewellery must not be worn for health and safety reasons with the exception of small ear studs. Earrings must be removed on PE days.
